Summer Night Skies- Prologue

I stopped with the other people crowded around. It was the night of the summer festival, but I, along with the others around me, had something else on our minds.
A fire had started at a house not very far from the festival, but far enough so that noone noticed for a while. The neighbors were no where near the house either. Someone at the festival noticed and that's how the crowd formed.
Everyone was anxiously waiting for the firefighters to finish putting out the fire and check to see if anyone was inside.
I was never a patient one, so I started looking around, observing the crowd of people. Two little kids stuck out to me. They both had dark purple hair and light purple eyes. They were obviously twins, but I think one was a boy and one a girl. They looked like they couldn't be any older than six.
The two were trying to push their way to the front of the crowd. I didn't see any adults that looked like they could be the children's parents. I got curious and made my way over to them.
"Excuse me, little ones. What are the two of you doing? Where are your parents?" The little girl pointed towards the burning house. "Your parents are in the house?" I questioned. The little boy nodded.
"Mommy's not feeling well, so she stayed home,"he said.
"And daddy went back to the house to get more money for the festival," the little girl finished. They tried to get further towards the house, but after a few failed attempts they turned back to me.
"Hey, big sister," the boy started.
"Can you help us through?" the little girl asked. I didn't really want them to get any closer to the house, but I led them there anyways. They just had a look in their eyes that was impossible to say no to.
I took them over to some firefighters standing around the truck. One of them spotted the three of us,"What is it? What do you want?" He seemed angry.
"Well, these two children say this is their house and that their parents might be in there," I explained.
"Oh, is that so?" he loosened up when the twins nodded to his question. "Well, my boys are searching the house now that they've put out the fire. If we find your parents in there in good condition we'll immediately send them to a hospital," he reassured them.
While we waited I observed the house. I hadn't even realized the fire was put out. And, now that it was, the crowd faded down. It was getting late, too. I had to get home, but I didn't want to leave the twins alone.
"Hey! Cheif! We got some bodies in here!" someone yelled from inside the now run-down house. The man we were waiting with ran towards the voice. And came back a few minutes after.
"There was a man and a woman in there. But, i'm afraid, they had no pulse. I'm sorry," he apologized. I nodded and he went back into the house remains.
I took the two children by their hands and led them away from the truck.
"Big sister, what does he mean? Where's our mommy and daddy? Where?" The girl questioned me. I leaned down so I was eye level with them.
"I'm sorry, but your mommy and daddy are gone."
"What? Is that true?" a voice behind me asked. I stood up and turned away to see an elderly woman. The two kids ran up and hugged her.
"Grandma! They said mommy and daddy are gone!" The girl started crying.
"Grandma! Where are they? Where?" The boy did, too.
"Shh, quiet down," the woman comforted them. "They passed away. And, as much as they would like to, they can't come back. But don't worry. They're in a better place and are watching you from above." She looked at me. "Thank you for watching them. I'm their neighbor from a couple houses down. I've always taken care of them when their parents were busy so they think of me as their grandma. They can stay with me so you can go on home," she smiled. I nodded and turned to leave, but I stopped. I looked back,"One thing. Can I know their names?" I asked.
"The girl is Mihako and the boy is Hikari," she answered. I smiled and waved goodbye.
